What Is Volkswagen Key Replacement And Why You Should Consider Volkswagen Key Replacement

Volkswagen Keyless Entry and Push-Button Start

Volkswagen has been around for a long time and is known for their classic cars. There are numerous modern models with features like keyless entry or push-button starting.

From the 1930s to the 2000's, Volkswagen used a simple metal key with an ability to flip. They eventually switched to a key equipped with microchips and later to smart keys.

Keyless Entry System

Modern cars have key fobs that allow you to start your car and unlock the doors without touching the vehicle. These systems utilize radio frequency signals to send and receive information between the key fob, and the car. Special circuitry is employed to ensure security. Certain models are more advanced than others, and include additional features like remote starters that permit the car to only be started when the keyfob is within a specified distance.

These systems can be fitted to your vehicle at the time of purchase or as an add-on for aftermarket purchase and there are many different options available. Some systems unlock only the driver's side door while others come with additional features, such as a smartphone application that allows you to lock or unlock your vehicle from anywhere. Some even include an alarm.

Keyless Start System

Keyless start lets you start your car and enter it with the push of a single button. You don't need to reach into your pockets or open the door using keys that are physically attached to. When you press the button the unique signal sent by the key fob is sent to the ignition to begin your car.

The system is similar to the smart key. A few antennas are set up around the vehicle, and they detect the electronic ID when you get closer to the fob. This signals the car's receiver to disable the immobilizer. It will also send electricity to the starter circuit which then starts your engine.

When your engine is running it can be shut down by pressing and holding the button. The same signal can be used to lock the doors, so you can leave your vehicle without having to worry about someone taking your keys or locking yourself out.

Older VW models come with the option of keyless entry however, many of the newer VWs come with it as standard. If you have an older VW equipped with this feature, your key fob likely contains what's referred to as an "backup mechanical key" that can be inserted into a special emergency port in the steering column or in the dash to get your vehicle started. Keys with Transponder Chips

Sometimes called transponder chip, these are electronic micro-chips integrated into the head of your Volkswagen key. When the key is put into your ignition lock and then turned into the lock, the chip sends a signal to the receiver in your car. The signal informs the car you have the right key and permits it to open the door and start the motor.  G28  does not require any battery power to function it simply receives an radio signal sent by the antenna ring on your car.

Before the 2000s, most cars used simple metal keys. In the early 2000s most automakers began using a keyfob with a switchblade feature - the metal key would pop out of the locking fob of the remote when it was pressed. This was a popular feature and is still in use today.

The Volkswagen replacement keys will have a transponder that needs to be copied to match the car's system. It's an easy process which can be carried out at home using a specialized key cloning tool like the KEYDIY X2 remote Cloner or another device similar. If you are having a key replaced or having a new one made, make sure to bring verification of ownership, such as your driver's licence and your vehicle registration.

Lost Keys

You can buy an electronic key finder that costs around $20, if you are worried about your Volkswagen keys. These tiny devices function by sending an electronic signal to your phone when your keys are nearby. They are perfect for dim lighting areas and for keeping your keys in busy parking spaces. Some are water-resistant and can be used to locate your vehicle in the event that it is stolen.

However, the best way to avoid losing your VW keys is to make sure they are always kept in a single spot, such as hanging them near the front door or in your pocket. You can also purchase a key made by a locksmith. This will usually be cheaper than buying a new one from the dealer.

If your Volkswagen is equipped with chip keys, you may be able to purchase a replacement from the dealer if the key is broken or lost. To do this you must visit the dealership with your title or registration and proof that you own the vehicle. The dealer will order the new Volkswagen key. You'll have to return the vehicle to the dealer to get the key programmed. You can also call a locksmith who can make a key using the VIN.
